A Day In The Life

A boring Saturday and storing  the summer into  jars

Maybe one of the last days in summer, at least one of the warmer days.
I can feel fall already around the corner, not that I mind.
People, who know me, know that I like the wind in my hair, and that 25°C is pretty hot for me.

At least, the sun is shining and the weather is awesome.

Saturday – weekend – no chores, no duties.
A lazy day.
Got up quite late.

Some people told me that when getting older you will experience something they call “senile insomnia” – I am still waiting for that.
Although I have to admit, I can do without.

Yeah getting up pretty late, exorbitant late.
Had to wake the son, who was also still sleeping.

Never mind, it is Saturday.

Nice breakfast, I did some eggs for us and bagels.
And a big pot of tea for me.
The son expressed his gratefulness, after serving breakfast. No not for the breakfast – for a non-burnt egg.
How awful does that sound? “Thank you mom, at least it isn’t burnt.”
Yeah I have to admit, I am still missing my electric oven. I am not used to this gas stuff.
It is horrible for me … can you imagine how many burnt eggs, burnt chicken nuggets, burnt hamburgers, burnt anything I produced during the last 5 something years?

I am glad that pasta is made with water.
Not that my cooking is bad, it just burns now and then …
… and I tell you, photoshop is so much easier to handle than that gas stove.

Ok back to my day.

Since I have started to read newspapers online, I read about 2 papers everyday, “Der Tagesspiegel” and “Berliner Zeitung”.
Sure not all articles, but you won’t do that in the paper form as well.

“Der Tagesspiegel” even offers its readers to comment. And sometimes I even fancy to read the comments. Not all and not for all subject.
You know beforehand which subject will be hot, and might have the risk of comments that are nasty.

But imagine the joy of a hot cup of tea and a news paper.

Saturday … my favorite day in the week.
You can sleep in. You can work but you don’t have too, since no customer expects anything on a Saturday.

You have another day of the weekend left.
I really enjoy that.

Did a little bit of shopping, my son needed some batteries for his phone.
And being a teenager he seems not being able to do such stuff on his own.

I guess, I am pretty happy that I don’t own a car. Otherwise you would find me driving my son to school, to friends, to Dad, to the moon ……

Laziness – I love it.
Kind of holiday or vacation in a hectically and busy week.

Nice chats with friends – I really appreciate your thoughts ladies and gentlemen.

And my big project of the day.

The nectarine jam

Cooking some jam at the end of the summer, feels like hiding summer and sun in jars.
It usually looks that way to me.

Earlier the day I had cut the nectarines into pieces and added the sugar to it.
The recipe asked for setting aside for about 5 hours.
No problem with that part.

After cooking it for a while around 6pm I mashed it and did the proper cooking.
Off with the hot stuff into jars.

Got 4 of them and a bowel.

I even tasted it on bread – I bought a white bread just for the jam.
So delicious.

When ever you stop by, you will get a slice of bread with the jam and a cup of tea.
Have a pumpkin for jam too, and some carrots, which work well with oranges.

This is designing too.

What is your favorite jam?
Do you store stuff for the winter?
